Do portable dishwashers work as well as built-in units?
Alison P asked: Or, at the very least, do they get the job done?

Absolutely not. I just bought a new Bosch built-in diswasher and I find it to be one of the best investments I’ve ever made. It’s so quiet you have to check for the red light to make sure its working.
Are you talking the counter top ones?? In college we used one that was big like a built in one but we wheeled it over to the sink and attached it to the faucet. It worked pretty good. it sure beat washing them all by hand. If you have the option of a built in one…then i would DEFINATELY go with that because it looks better!
When I was living at home, my mom had a portable dishwasher and it worked great. The only reason we didn’t have a built-in was because the house that we lived in was built in the early 50’s and kitchens weren’t designed with the built-in dishwasher in mind.
It was on small wheels and was rolled over to the sink area to be able to hook up the water supply from the faucet. After use, it was rolled out of the way, but still remained in the kitchen and worked just as well and was the same load capacity as a built-in.
yes they work very well- I had a portable hotpoint brand for many years before we bought a house & bought a new built in. Just make it a rule not to pile stuff on it—is a total pain when you have to roll it over to the sink & stuff falls off
Yes they do, and yes Bosh is great. But portables take up more space. So if a built-in isn’t possible…the portable is a good resolution.
Yep, most are one in the same. Most portables can be built in. I have been using portables for 16 years. (I raised 5 kids.)
