I can’t seem to get an answer from anybody…they all want to charge me a service call to have their guy come out and tell me what’s wrong with the machine. I just want to know if it’s going to be an expensive labor charge, or a cheap one! The part is covered by warranty, but if it’s $250 in labor, then I’ll just buy a new one! It’s an Over-the-Range GE Profile, by the way….I installed it originally, so I could have it down and on the counter, or bring it in to the service center. Could I do the repair myself? Thanks in advance, Greg, aka tonevault

Should you tip an appliance repair person?

Skierchick asked:

Our washing machine broke and service is covered under warranty. Would you tip the repair person? If so, how much? We are in a tough financial situation.

So I’d like to know some appliance brands and know the power rating in wattage for each appliance brand. I need to know at least four of them for my hw and I’m having a bit of trouble on it. Plus I don’t know what forms of energy these appliances produce.

Our house is a 2000, so it’s not ancient, but it still needs the 10 year updates. So we were looking into have the light yellow painted a modern brown/beige, which would be about $4000. We also looked into all new stainless appliances, which would also be $4000. Which would we get the most for our money?
The house color makes the house, but the stainless gives a new look too!

My second question is about service life. What type of tv technology will serve me for 10 or more years reliably like the old technology? For instance Plasma, DLP, LCD, HDTV are all different types of technological platforms that provide marvelous results, I just don’t want to buy a TV that cannot be repaired and will not last like an appliance.

I have a 16 year old Kenmore Washer/Dryer. The washer will not spin or drain properly but it does fill with water. It makes a humming noise like it is struggling to operate. My question is whether to try to repair it or is it time to get another? Also – considering the age of the dryer – is it also living on borrowed time.? Would I be better off in the long run to put money into repairs or just buy a new set now? I do an average of 4 to 5 loads of laundry per week if that makes any difference.
