We are unable to locate the service manual for said washer (model GWL08). We received this error when attempting to repair this appliance and were wondering about the reason for this error. Please direct us to appropriate website or answer question.

Then it just stopped. My question is where in the world can I send this thing to get it fixed? I have tried to ask Ginny themselves. But, they said unless I know the persons name of where I got it. I was out of luck! Nice way to do business. I know. I don’t have a small appliance repair man in my area. So if I have to mail it to someone I really don’t care.

repair or replace electric stove?

Ginny asked:

Stove is coil-style (my preference), very clean, sturdy Whirlpool w/ self-cleaning oven — about 20 years old. Oven thermostat needs replacing, about $250 job. Have looked at new stoves, not many coil models w/ self-clean oven available, and most seem flimsier than my old one. Ordinarily I wouldn’t repair an old appliance, but I’m thinking about it. Main questions: how likely is it that the top part will go bad, and how expensive would it be to repair? I mean the main electric stove-top component, not the coils, which are easy to replace. Would appreciate advice and experience, esp. from repair people.

I am looking at a house that is extremely cheap for my market. Realtor says it needs $50k in repair, but I was hoping to put $100K into it to do the full deal (granite/stainless Sub zero appliances etc) Hypothetically, if the purchase price of the house was $100,000, would I be able to take out a loan for $200,000 to do my desired repairs? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am a first time home buyer. Thanks
Here is some more information pertaining to my situation…
House is valued at $340,000 on zillow.com. House next door is worth $617,000 and none of the houses on the street are under $375,000 (except this one) In general, the median value of the houses on the street are $425k. My credit is fair not great or stellar at all, but I have a large income, and am pre-approved for $500,000. I do not have $100,000 saved to spend of my own money. I use my money for private school for my kids.

I’m also looking for knobs for this unit which is about 20 years old (not that old for a gas cooktop IMHO).

Various appliance parts web sites say parts are no longer available.

We’ve already attempted professional repair. I looked up recommended service outlets on the KitchenAid site and had a tech come out. He looked up the model and said sorry parts are NLA, and left, having the power disconnected internally and us having to start it with matches. (I’ve since temporarily wire-nutted around the vacant switch position.)

So…a hundred bucks was wasted calling in a pro.

I’m hoping however that the switch was not unique to this model and is and might be available as a part for some other model or brand and no one bothered to
create a cross reference. Or maybe replace the valve / switch entirely.

Anyway, here is the switch unit alone:

How Can I Repair Ripped Congoleum?

Benny asked:

I was informed (by a local congoleum dealer) that I could lay a new piece of congoleum down on top of my old linoleum withough gluing into place. The type of congoleum I purchased is the type they say requires no glue. I was clumbsy with a sharp edge on my appliance and ripped a large hole in the center of the kitchen.

Here is my question.

Can you give me an idea of how you would fix this kind of tear? Try to cut a new piece and glue into the new hole?

appliance (dishwawsher) repair question?

shannon e asked:

I need to get my 3 year old Maytag dishwasher repaired. The latch that keeps it closed is broken. Am I better off – i.e. cheaper, faster, better – calling Maytag, the local dealer where I bought it or looking for an independant appliance repair service myself?

Its helpful and just nice to have a good boyfriend or husband. Its a plus when he knows about general repair stuff and is there to help you out. But for the ladies, like me, that dont have that whats the best alternative.

I thought about the always new way. New car, new house, new appliances, just everything new and nothing used. That is just a little no alot expensive for me. With new things there could be less headache and questions and warranties.

Or I can have a Mr. Fix It, that could get expensive too. He may not be able to fix it all anyways. Mechanics and handmen get so pricey. I know they trying to earn a living but oh my goodness.

So whats your advise to us ladies?
